DCN Diving was awarded a complex offshore repair project by Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN), in collaboration with its Indonesian partner SGI. The assignment involved the permanent repair of a damaged 32-inch gas pipeline on the seabed of the Java Sea, supplying gas to Jakarta.
The damage, located on a weld seam, was initially secured with a temporary clamp. DCN carried out the final repair at a depth of 27 meters using advanced hyperbaric welding techniques, while the pipeline remained fully operational and pressurized. This type of “live” repair is highly specialized and performed by only a limited number of companies worldwide.
A key factor in this project was DCN’s in-house hyperbaric test facility in Bergen op Zoom, where full-scale simulations and diver training were conducted under supervision of the client and DNV. In total, 15 divers were trained, with a dedicated team operating in saturation offshore.
The repair was executed using a custom-built habitat to create a dry and safe working environment underwater. Offshore operations were supported by the DP2 diving support vessel Normand Baltic.
